Sea Glass Mosaic

For years they lived near Southern California beaches beachcombing for sea glass and shells. Now they're landlocked, living part time in Arizona and New Mexico. Sea glassing vacations are high on their agenda! theis Glass Beach mosaic was made after a trip to Glass Beach, Ft. Bragg, California. It was an incredible sight and experience, and I wanted to create a bit of the beach for myself to enjoy at home. I used glass, abalone pieces, and pebbles from there, mixed with some stained glass.

Whale Puke Can Make You Wealthy

The next time you're beachcombing keep an eye out for clumps of a grayish black substance as it may make you instantly rich! What we're talking about is ambergris, coughed up from sperm whales and used in the perfume industry for hundreds of years due to its sweet, earthy aroma. It is a rare substance that is still highly sort after and can net you over $10,000 a pound! A sperm whale produces the substance in its intestines and is believed to aid in the passing of sharp objects such as squid beaks. It can be coughed up by a whale or find its way into the ocean after a dead whale decomposes sufficiently.
One lucky couple recently stumbled across a clump weighing over 30 pounds in South Australia. For more on the story click Whale Puke.

World's Most Expensive Valentine's Gift Being Auctioned for Charity... Staring Bid: $1 Million!

Alex Carroll is auctioning what is apparently the world's oldest timepiece this Valentine's Day, along with what may be the world's rarest necklace, and hopes to raise millions for charity with the proceeds. The pair will be auctioned off in time for Valetine's Day with a starting bid of $1 million. The 20-million-year-old timepiece is made from a naturally heart-shaped piece of fossilized Bali Star Coral, and what Carroll says is the world's largest collection of naturally heart-shaped pieces of rare, red sea glass. The matching gold pendant is made with what Carroll says is the most perfect specimen of naturally heart-shaped red sea glass ever found.
